Support to Molnytsia Orphanage of Holy Ascension Monastery

Dmitry Firtash has been providing charity support to an orphanage in the village of Molnytsia established under patronage of the Holy Ascension Monastery in Bancheny (Chernivtsi region). The orphanage institution was initiated by the Monastery’s Father Superior, Archimandrite Longuin. The Monastery’s Father Superior had invited first children to the orphanage back in early 1990s and ever since, it has been home for 265 orphans. Of those Rev. Longuin adopted 29 children and the rest of them are under his guardianship. In 2008, Archimandrite Longuin was awarded the supreme title of the Hero of Ukraine.

The orphanage admits children from across the entire Ukraine and at the moment it is a home for 170 boys and girls. Many of them are children with limited abilities, including patients with children’s cerebral palsy, cancer. A separate ward was built within the orphanage for over 50 children suffering from HIV infection. Owing to professional treatment and heartiest care, the orphanage boasts several cases of successful healing of some serious and perilous diseases. Many regard these cases of healing to be a miracle resulting from a combination of quality treatment with a tireless prayer. Children go to a neighboring Holy Ascension Monastery and the Church right within the orphanage’s perimeter.

The children enjoy all the necessary essentials, the orphanage boasts medical rooms furnished with the most modern equipment, playrooms, gym, swimming-pool.

The orphanage inmates are being continuously looked after by lay-sisters from a nunnery in a neighboring village of Bayany, as well as by teachers with professional pedagogical backgrounds. Each inmate has a teacher that looks after him or her who the kids often refer to as “mamma”.  It is only one man who the children call as “daddy” – it is Father Longuin who commits each free moment of his time to his children.

All orphanage inmates go to a village school. When growing up, the young people who are prepared for living autonomous lives leave the orphanage, create their own families. The young people with special needs remain dwelling at the Monastery and receive the necessary care.

On October 2, 2011, His Holiness Kirill Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia visited the orphanage in Molnytsia. Addressing the gathering at the event, he expressed his appreciation to all and everyone contributing into the orphanage establishment and functioning:  “Indeed, I am having one of the happiest days of my life today as I have met with you, I have seen your enlightened faces, your remarkable eyes, I have heard words spoken to me, your lovely verses and songs. From the bottom of my heart I wish to thank those who made this home happen for you. I thank the teachers contributing their hearts and souls into instilling peace in your hearts, into making the God’s grace be with you at all times, into making sure that your eyes beam joy and happiness,” said the Patriarch.
