42 troupes of Malanka artists presented their performances during the carnival

  • Chernivtsi hosted traditional ethnic holiday Malanka-Fest 2014
  • For centuries, celebration has preserved the character of a national festivals
  • The festival was held with the support of the FIRTASH Foundation charity, which completely took over the organization of the celebration and all necessary financial costs
  • The culmination of the festival traditionally has become the procession of Malanka artists through the main streets of Chernivtsi
  • This year's celebration was attended by troupes not only from Ukraine, but also from neighboring countries – Moldova and Romania
  • 42 troupes of Malanka artists presented their performances during the carnival
  • Boys and girls wearing costumes of national heroes, ethnic characters and animals greeted citizens with Christmas holidays
  • Each year, participants of the festival compete in costumes originality and creativity
  • More than 50 thousand Ukrainians took part in the authentic Bukovyna carnival on the streets of Chernivtsi
  • Dances and carols were heard everywhere during “Malanka-Fest – 2014”
  • Providing financial support to the festival, founders of the FIRTASH Foundation charity Dmitry and Lada Firtash hope to keep tradition of Ukrainian people and pass them on to future generations
  • Folklore-ethnographic festival “Malanka Fest 2014”
  • Guests from the great Ukrainian poet’s small motherland came to participate in the festival in Chernivtsi
  • During “Malanka-fest 2014” participants paid special attention to the person of Taras Shevchenko
  • Traditional characters, such as Malanka, Vasyl, bears, goats, Gypsies, and modern heroes – characters of popular movies and cartoons – became the participants of the ethno-festival
  • Modern Ukrainian heroes – supporters of Darwin's theory – also attended the festival on their coach
  • Participants of the festival were surprising Bukovyna citizens by outlandish costumes, theatrical performances and national color
  • The participants of the ethno-festival dressed not only in Ukrainian bandura players, but also used images of modern chimeric rockers
  • Formula 1 racers were also caroling on “Malanka-Fest 2014”
  • For many centuries Malanka Festival has been retaining the character of a wide public celebration
  • Malanka-Fest is a tribute to ancient traditions preserved by Ukrainians
  • Participants of the festival, even the youngest, are sure that every nation needs to keep ancient folk traditions
  • Christmas town in the center of Chernivtsi will run until January, 20
  • The Head of the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration Mykhaylo Papiev noted that the preparation of documents for the nomination of the Ukrainian carnival to the list of UNESCO intangible heritage attractions were lasting
  • “Malanka-Fest 2014” was visited by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Austria in Ukraine Wolf Dietrich Haim
  • Total number of participants of the festival reached a half thousand people. All participants will receive prizes from the FIRTASH Foundation charity
