26 May 2011 Charity. Education. Council of Investors Under MESYS

The Government And Private Sector To Jointly Advance Education In Ukraine

The Ministry of Education and Science and the private sector are to work together to advance Ukrainian education. This agreement was reached at the first meeting of the Council of Domestic and Foreign Investors at the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, co-chaired by Dmitry Tabachnik, Minister of Education, Science, Youth and Sports, and Mr. Dmitry Firtash, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Group DF, on Thursday, May 26, 2011.

Dmitry Tabachnik noted that the Council of Domestic and Foreign Investors at the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports (MESYS) of Ukraine will support the attraction and effective utilization of investments of Ukrainian and foreign businesspeople to improve science and education in Ukraine.

“At present, public funding is not sufficient so it is important to develop ways of attracting extra-budgetary funds. In order to capitalize results rather than the process per se, goal-specific private investments made directly into education and science are crucial,” said Dmitry Tabachnik.

Mr. Dmitry Firtash, Head of the Joint Employers Movement of Ukraine, said that the collaboration of government agencies and businesses is an example of effective public-private partnership in modernizing education and science and stimulating the innovative development of the Ukrainian economy.

“When a business wants to expand, the first thing it thinks about is qualified personnel and new technologies. This is what creates the basis for competitiveness. The interaction of business and science and business and education is the foundation of a strong economy. We cannot exist without one another,” said Dmitry Firtash.

The parties agreed to shortly come up with a list of priorities addressing which will require joining efforts of teachers, scientists and investors.
