The 2nd International Poetry Festival Meridian Czernowitz starts in Chernivtsi

On September 2 – 4, the city of Chernivtsi is hosting the 2nd International Poetry Festival Meridian Czernowitz. Making this colorful event happen became to a large possible due to the sponsorship support provided by Mr. Dmitry Firtash, Head of the Joint Employers Movement of Ukraine and Head of the Board of Directors of Group DF – the group of companies acting as the Festival’s General Partner.

The event was officially opened in the building of Chernivtsi National University and featured a presentation of a original and translated poetry almanac of works by authors participating in Meridian Czernowitz.

The Festival brings together poets, artists and musicians from Ukraine, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Romania, Moldova, Israel and France.
The organizers have prepared over 30 different events for the Festival attendees: a variety of poetic readings, discussions and lectures, as well as musical and poetry performances and video-installations. A good deal attention is attached to a photo-exhibition Metaphysics and a dramatized concert starring Oleg Skrypka.

The forum also offers an opportunity to present 5 newly-published books including two joint Ukrainian-European publishing projects and a new novel by one of Ukraine’s most popular writers Yuriy Andrukhovych “The Lexicon of Intimate Cities” prepared for publication with participation of Meridian Czernowitz.

The Festival’s closing will be announced at the Wine and Poetry Party hosted by Chernivstri restaurant-club Premium.

The Festival’s President Sviatoslav Pomerantsev believes that this event is an important tool in elevating Chernivtsi’s cultural value: “Our Festival pursues concrete objectives: Chernivtsi’s return to the cultural map of Europe, while our second objective is to have fun. So please, have fun and let’s work together towards returning Chernivtsi to the information and cultural space of Europe.”

NOTE:

Meridian Czernowitz Festival was founded in 2010 and is organized on an annual basis during the first week of September. The 1st Meridian Czernowitz was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of birth of Paul Zelan, a German-speaking poet born in Chernivtsi.
