Dmitry Firtash Becomes Co-Chairman Of The Council Of Domestic And Foreign Investors Under The Ministry Of Education And Science, Youth And Sports

The Council of Domestic And Foreign Investors Under The Ministry Of Education And Science, Youth And Sports of Ukraine has been set up as per a Decree of the above Ministry dated 1 March 2011. This decision was made as part of implementation of the policy of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine pursued to the end of establishing an effective public-private dialog in all spheres of the nation’s social and economic life.
 
Mr. Dmitry Tabachnik, Minister of Education And Science, Youth And Sports and Mr. Dmitry Firtash, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Group DF group of companies have been elected to co-chair this Council.
 
The Council’s prime objective is defined as putting in place adequate prerequisites for attracting more investments in a variety of efforts seeking to advance education, science, youth affairs and sports. According to Mr. Tabachnik, these efforts today represent largely cost-ineffective sectors of the economy, and financing these solely by raising state budget appropriations is impossible. It is therefore of a great importance that mechanisms of extra-budgetary fundraising, i.e. increasing the share of private financing, be created.
 
Mr. Firtash fully concurred with the imperativeness of furthering the public-private partnership between the Ministry and private business. “A business which starts investing in R&D and HR development plans its development in the long run. Making the Ukrainian economy competitive globally is a must today. But making sure that such investments are effective and well protected, both businesses and the government must cooperate in a concerted fashion,” commented
