‘Ukraine For Me Stands Not For Risk, It Stands For Home’ – Dmitry Firtash
Interviewed by a group of journalists, Dmitry Firtash, President of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, shared his perception of Ukraine and his views about the de-oligarchization policy.“I live in Ukraine. I carry no passport other than the Ukrainian one. My mom has always lived in the village and that can be easily verified. My children have been studying in Kiev. For me, Ukraine is a very important place,” told Mr. Firtash.
He also pointed out that notwithstanding the historical challenges faced by Ukraine he has been confident about the country’s future.
“I feel comfortable at home. My personal philosophy has always been about investing everything I earn in Ukraine,” said Mr. Firtash and added that despite economists’ recommendations, he remained committed to investing in the country’s advancement.
“I have met with lots of investment bankers who would talk me into laying eggs in different baskets and talk me out of investing in Ukraine because it was, as they said, unreliable and wrong. They would argue that risks are very high. I would always reply: what is risk for you is the land I live in. I mean, Ukraine is not about risk for me,” said Mr. Firtash.
Dmitry Firtash thinks that the nation’s growth and development will be promoted by peace and forces consolidation for the sake of saving jobs.
Mr. Firtash further pointed out that over the past year unemployment has seen a 1 million increase. “So far, the government’s success for me is manifested in making another million people unemployed. Today, there are already 2.5 million jobless citizens in Ukraine. Any cabinet that comes to power says: we will create jobs. Ours has cut million people
off their jobs of which 600 thousand alone account for the industrial sector,” said the FEU President. He also stated that the government today is waging war on the Ukrainian business. “Who does Yatseniuk fight against? It’s not me, it’s dozens thousand business people. I need nothing from him, I will survive with or without him. But what he’s been doing to the country is hard to comprehend,” emphasized Mr. Firtash.
